GENESIS Pancreatic Cancer
Early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer through information regarding its symptoms
is the main goal of the actions carried out by the Greek “alliance” of organizations of the scientific community of oncology and patients, on the occasion of November 15, World Pancreatic Cancer Day.
The “alliance” was a partnership of cooperation and action for pancreatic cancer in which they participate in addition to the Association of Patients “K.E.F.I.” and the Hellenic Cancer Federation-ELL.O.K., most of the bodies of the scientific community of oncology: Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HESMO), Hellenic Society of Radiation Oncology, Digestive Cancer Research Society (EM-KAPES) and Women in Oncology.
In addition to public informative events, the “alliance” created a TV spot regarding the symptoms that may indicate the onset of the disease, with the central message “Prevent it. Early diagnosis counts! Your life counts!”
Furthermore, the first Greek electronic information platform exclusively for pancreatic cancer was created, which includes the website www.pancare.gr and the Pancare app, available for free for Android software via play.google.com.
The platform provides comprehensive information on pancreatic cancer and its management, access to expert articles, complete recording of oncology centres, structures and patient support agencies throughout Greece, information on patients’ rights, and enables the creation of a personal patient’s diary and has interactive services such as communicating with health professionals and submitting support requests. The platform was formed and managed by the Association of Patients K.E.F.I. under the auspices of HESMO, EM-KAPES and ELL.OK and with the kind support of the international pharmaceutical company Celgene.
At the same time, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was symbolically illuminated in the purple colour of World Day.
